The Importance of Keeping Clean Gutters
During this time of the year keeping your gutters clean might not be the first thought on your mind. Also, the weather is not too kind at the moment for any exterior house work. But keeping your gutters clean should be something to always keep in mind because having dirty gutters can cause your home a lot of issues.
How often should I clean my gutters?
This usually depends on the weather and Virginia weather is kind of all over the place. So we suggest cleaning your gutters at least twice a year. But the more, the merrier!
What kind of problems could I have if I don’t clean my gutters?
You could have several issues with clogged gutters.
If your gutters are clogged, the water will overflow and make its way down to the foundation of your home instead of through the drainage system. This could either cause a cracked foundation or allow the house to move or sink.
Clogged gutters can also cause the overflowing water to damage the fascia of your home. Large amounts of water can cause the fascia to rot.
The water from your clogged up gutters can also damage your landscaping. The overflowing water can erode the soil and cause other plants to die. And an excess of moisture can create a bug problem for your plants. In addition, clogged gutters can become a nesting place for many bugs.
When cleaning your gutters make sure that you have a sturdy ladder and gloves. Once up there, make sure to inspect them, and if you need gutter replacement, Culpeper Window & Siding can do the job!
