Our Fall Home Maintenance Tips
Happy first day of Fall! Fall has officially arrived in the Culpeper area. And although we love enjoying this season, don’t forget that your home needs some maintenance. Before you begin your pumpkin carvings and drinking your pumpkin-spiced flavored drinks, remember that your home needs a little bit of prep done before winter arrives.
So what should you be checking for to prepare for fall and winter?
Gutters: Aside from spring, fall is a busy time for your gutters. Before the leaves start falling, clean out and inspect your gutters. Leaves will soon be falling on your roof and gutters, so you want to avoid clogged gutters because they can cause exterior damage to your home.
Siding: Inspect the siding of your home. Make sure that there is no missing or loose parts. If you didn’t clean it this summer, take advantage of the last days of warmth and give it a wash.
Windows and Doors: Check your windows and doors. Are there any drafts? If there are, caulk around the windows and doors. If you notice any cracks on the windows, it is better to replace them now than in the winter. Don’t allow heat to escape your home!
Fans: Don’t forget to reverse the ceiling fan so it creates an upward draft.
Heating and Cooling System: Get your HVAC system inspected. You might not think there is anything wrong with it, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. You don’t want to be wearing 20 layers of clothing if your system breaks down in the winter.
Check Your Roof: You want to get up there before it gets too cold. Make sure that there is no damage like: missing, cracked, loose or buckled shingles. You definitely do not want a leaky roof during a snowstorm.
There are many other things you can check, but we believe these are pretty high up on that list. If you have any more suggestions, leave them in the comments. If you are looking for windows, gutter, or siding replacement near the Culpeper area, give Culpeper Window & Siding a call at 540-547-9100.
